Costa Rica Surfing – The ISA World Surfing games have just ended in Costa Rica probably leaving many Costa Rican surfers with a bad taste in their mouth after not even finishing in the top 3 teams.
But perhaps they will have their revenge soon.
In October, Costa Rica will be a stop for the World Surf League (WSL) in Esterillos, Parrita. This is one of the most important events in the surfing world and prize purse that will be handed out is $130,000.
The event is not teamed based, it will be an individual surfing event and will be held from the 5th to 9th of October. so far the competitors are 142 men and 68 women.
The name of the event is the 2016 Costa Rica Pro Open.
This will be a top level competition with surfers from around the globe competing for the top prize which is money and of course recognition in the surfing world.
Costa Ricans participating in the event are Carlos Cali Munoz Noe Mar McGonagle and Tomas King.
For other Costa Ricans and local surfers that want to be a part of this competition there will be a qualifying tournament between the 17th and 18th of September. Right now there are 40 local surfers vying for a spot.
