Ghosts & the Supernatural – As a paranormal investigator, I have investigated many historical sites. Some of these sites are very well-known famous sites. You are about to read about my past investigations at two very famous haunted sites. The Winchester Mystery House and the USS Hornet.
When I visited the Winchester Mystery House I thought I would capture a lot of EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) on my trusty digital recording device, along with anomalies captured on my cameras. I captured nothing unusual, abnormal or to say the least paranormal.
I was not impressed with my findings. In fact the Winchester Mystery House is probably the most non-haunted house in California. The Winchester Mystery House was actually built for the deceased victims of the Winchester rifle, that is why Ms. Winchester kept on adding rooms. Of course, she went a little bonkers by adding 13 steps to a blank wall or having a door open to nothing but the outdoors, dangerous stuff if you are intoxicated and thinking if you opened this door you will find a bedroom and when you open it, it’s nothing but outdoors and you fall and break your neck.
Here are some of the stories about this mysterious house:
THE CARPENTER:
A caretaker of the mansion claims he heard footsteps and odd breathing in the house. There were no tourists in the house. The only person in the house was the caretaker. The breathing continued and the caretaker could not find any natural explanation for the unsettling breathing noises. Then the caretaker heard a screw turning and the sound of the screw falling to the floor. The caretaker turned on the lights and couldn’t find anything out of place. What I think this caretaker experienced is simply a residual haunting effect. The sounds of a carpenter that once worked on this house. The sounds are being replayed over and over again, implanted into the atmosphere. Non-intelligent energy that is being witnessed by the caretaker. The Carpenter was captured by a tourist in a photograph, he was wearing workman’s heavy coveralls.
WINCHESTER CANDY MAN:
A tourist claimed that he saw a man handing out candy in front of the house. As the tourist approached the man that was handing out candy, he simply vanished in front of the tourist’s eyes. The man was 6 feet tall, wearing a tall top black hat and a black coat tails jacket. This story reminds me of something that Deanna (my wife who is a psychic experienced at the Miner’s Motel in Jamestown). Here is Deanna’s experience:
12/25/2016 Christmas Night: Deanna Jaxine Stinson, Psychic saw an apparition in our Room 307 at the Miner’s Motel – 18740 CA-108, Jamestown, CA 95327. The apparition description: male, brown hair, wearing 1800s garb, wearing cowboy hat, wearing blue jeans. The apparition looked at Deanna and she could envision that this apparition when living had a Mining Store for miners and his specialty was Turkish delights and butterscotch candy. The apparition said to Deanna: “Merry Christmas!” GHOST IDENTIFIED: Miner’s Motel Candy Man.
THE DOOR UNLOCKER:
Other mysterious happenings at the Winchester Mystery House is when a Winchester employee locks all of the doors, he re-checks them only to find them unlocked again.
THE GHOST WHO TURNS ON THE LIGHTS:
A caretaker claims that his duty is to shut off all of the lights in the house. When he finished and was walking to his car, he looked back at the house and the whole second floor lights were on. Talk about frustrating.
THE DESK SOAKER:
Another employee complained that one time he found his desk drenched with water. The paperwork on his desk was completely wet. Everything around his desk was bone dry, the only thing wet was anything on top of his desk.
THE JANITOR:
Rumor has it that a janitor that worked at the mansion died on the grounds that he loved so much. He died of an apparent heart attack. Some tourists have claimed that they have seen the janitor peering through the window.
THE TWINS:
Daniel Jahns of Santa Clara County said that he saw 2 little boys dressed in blue running up and down some steps. Daniel thought the boys were part of his group and told the boys to be careful. The boys stopped and looked at Daniel and began laughing. Daniel noticed that the 2 boys looked alike and figured they were twins. Daniel asked the boys: “where are your parents?” The boys looked confused and vanished in front of Daniel’s eyes.
THE LABRADOR:
A black Labrador retriever is sometimes seen wandering the halls. A caretaker followed the dog down one hall and into a room. When he arrived to the room, the dog was gone.
Now, let’s see what I found on the USS Hornet…..
Before I go on with our investigation at the USS Hornet, on this day: May 1, 2011 Sunday – President Obama declared that under his authority a reconnaissance mission was carried out by the Navy Seals, in which the number 1 terrorist of the world was killed. Osama bin Laden.
The Navy Seals are a specialized unit within the Navy, that carry on their warrior duties that may include and are not limited to:
Conducting insertions and extractions by sea, air or land to accomplish covert, Special Warfare / Special Operations missions
Capturing high-value enemy personnel and terrorists around the world
Collecting information and intelligence through special reconnaissance missions
Carrying out small-unit, direct-action missions against military targets
Performing underwater reconnaissance and the demolition of natural or man-made obstacles prior to amphibious landings
I had the honor during my time as an OPFOR instructor teaching the Soviet Threat, to meet these valuable warriors. They truly proved their value on this day, when arriving by helicopter, engaged in a fire fight that lasted for 40 minutes, bringing a treacherous terrorist to his final demise.
God bless the Navy Seals, they truly fight for our freedom and independence. God bless our President. God bless our nation and God Bless the victims of 9/11. America has the strength to endure the worst of times and on May 1, 2011, America showed it’s ability to smite evil from our world!
I am proud to be an American!
On this same day, our investigation lead us to a ship that carried its patriotic duties during World War II and the Apollo mission. To read about the USS Hornet’s legacy in history, stop by here:

Judy Raderchak and Regina Tellez of EGPI (Elk Grove Paranormal Investigations) and HPI (Haunted and Paranormal Investigations International) set up this fabulous investigation and brought along myself, Shannon ‘Ms. Macabre’ McCabe, Bryan Coleman, Jennifer Newell/Psychic and Chantal Apodaca/Psychic.
We were taken into the operations area, battle pressing station where they patch sailors up. There were signs ‘authorized personnel only’ and ‘keep out – docent tours only’, but our HPI team was determined to investigate all areas of the ship, may it lead us to areas unknown such as the morgue, the area of the Turn and Burn Unit where a man hung himself in this engine room.
We listened to our tour guide Phil tell us various stories surrounding this historic vessel. Radio silence was observed when enemy subs were around. Rosie the Riveteer women worked on ships like the USS Hornet. I must tell you my own mother Rosita (Rosemarie) Causing – Roberts was a Rosie the Riveteer, except she worked on WWII planes. Here is a shocking story that Phil told us. When a man fell overboard, he was considered as dead. Why? Because the ship kept on its course.
The USS Hornet has fighting capabilities, but it also had the capability of producing 92,000 gallons of drinkable water for the crew mates. In June of 1970, the USS Hornet was decommissioned and now it is a museum that is open to the public.
The USS Hornet has a reputation of being haunted. Ghost Adventures
http://www.travelchannel.com/TV_Shows/Ghost_Adventures – obtained a clear EVP in the USS Hornet and we were in the same area where they obtained that EVP. We were unsuccessful in obtaining an EVP where the Ghost Adventures crew obtained there EVP, but we were successful in other areas of the ship. Special Note: When HPI investigated the Preston Castle for Conversations of a Serial Killer for Two Four Productions in England, Ghost Adventures investigated Preston Castle next, then came Ghost Hunters International and finally Ghost Lab. The producer of Ghost Adventures contacted me when Ghost Adventures investigated the tunnels of Old Sacramento and asked if I could get them into the Martinez House. I couldn’t get the Ghost Adventures crew into the Martinez House. The owner Aruso told me after I wrote my article on the Martinez House, that his home is not haunted, even though his neighbors think his home has paranormal activity.
Back to the USS Hornet. It appears that we may have obtained two EVPs. I counted military cadence and one of the EVPs seems to mimic me. Another EVP sounds like it is saying ‘hey’. The EVPs will be analyzed further to determine if they are authentic or if we received contamination from outside voices.
Jennifer Newell took some unique orb pictures. One was a very bright orb and the other orb is a designer orb, when enhanced it shows a face. We will again analyze the photos to see if Jennifer actually captured two spiritual containment fields (orbs of a paranormal nature). Jennifer tried to duplicate her photos by having Chantal kick dust into the air and was not able to duplicate the images.
The USS Hornet is truly a maze and you can easily get lost on this ship, but thanks to Phil he guided us through this maze and told some incredible stories of this historic relic of America’s days gone past.
God bless America!
