Water supply has always been an issue for those in Guanacaste. Studies for a reservoir that would provide water to half a million people in Guanacaste for 50 years are about to start, thanks to a court ruling.
The court has cleared the way for the start of the project, one that had previously been prevented because of being denied entry to a private farm to carry out preliminary studies for the reservoir.
The owners of the Ciruelas Hacienda property denied officials entry, stating that it was inappropriate to start the appraisal for the works while they were still on the property and so far in advance of when the project could be feasible.
Later the property was officially added to the limits of the biological reserve that will be flooded to make a reservoir.
The most recent ruling orders that they be allowed access to the farm.
