There are two Ticas currently stuck quarantined in Wuhan, China. Another was evacuated by the US because she has citizenship there as well. The Costa Rican Embassy in Beijing has been asked to help the two Costa Rican girls remaining there to leave.
The Chinese authorities closed train stations, the airport, and all entrances by land, in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus. The Ticas are not sick, as they have been following the recommendations for preventive measures.
The Foreign Ministry sees that the only viable option for repatriation is to travel by land to another city in China, by private car, and with permission. They will then have to spend 15 more days in quarantine before leaving for a third country by plane.
The regulations put forth by the Migration and Immigration repatriation protocol must be respected both for diplomatic relations and public health in Costa Rica and any countries the girls will travel through.
