Fire extinguishers arrived on the scene, thinking they were responding to a structure fire at a warehouse. They realized it was garbage burning. This horrible habit practiced throughout the country once again got out of control.
As if burning giant piles of trash wasn’t bad enough, for the environment and for the neighbors, it was happening at a recycling warehouse of all places.
A report was made at about 1am from the La Pradera urbanization in Rincón Chiquito de La Guácima. Firefighters struggled to contain the fire. At 8:20 am they were still fighting the fire started by burning an enormous amount of garbage at a makeshift open air dump. The hydrants in the area are in bad shape, further complicating the matter.
Three fire trucks, various tankers, and dozens of firefighters were involved in the effort. No people were affected. The 2,000 square meter warehouse wasn’t affected either.
