Lifestyle – I watched my dog last night as she got ready for bed and noticed she circled and then lay down life she does every time. It got me thinking, why in the world does she do this?
If you own a dog or know someone who owns a dog, most likely you’ve seen what dogs tend to do before they lie down. They walk in circles, but why do they walk in circles?
The dogs that we know today have been domesticated, meaning they have learned to live with humans as companions. Being domesticated, dogs have lost many of the natural instincts their ancestors possessed because they no longer need those instincts.
Although they have been domesticated, they haven’t lost all of their instincts yet. They still carry some of those natural instincts with them, and that is part of the mystery of why they circle before lying down.
Long ago, the ancestors of dogs had to find their own beds. In order to create their own beds, they would search for a comfy patch of grass, and then mat it down by walking in a circle. However, this isn’t the only reason they would walk in a circle.
I tried it when I went to bed last night, but it did not have the effect I desired, I still could not get comfortable for an hour.
