Deputies have called on the ministers of Security, Labor, and Tourism regarding the recent crimes against vacationers in Costa Rica. The President of the Security and Drug Trafficking Commission proposed that the Migration Director also appear for the motion.
The proposal would call to Congress Michael Soto, Steven Nunez, Maria Amalia Revelo and Raquel Vargas.
This proposal comes a day after the death of the Venezuelan-American tourist Carla Stefaniak. Her body was found on the property of the hotel where she was staying. A guard is the suspect. She’s the third tourist murdered this year in Costa Rica. A Mexican tourist was attacked in Cobano and a Spanish tourist in Tortuguero. These are tragic femicides.
The country must take steps to implement security measures in tourism and labor to protect citizens and tourists. Conditions must be improved for our safety and the international image of the country as well.
