Costa Rica News – Costa Rica is blessed with hundreds of volunteers at any given time.
Recently, 100 of them participated in clean-up days organized in the the Ventanas and Grande beaches of the Las Baulas National Marine Park in Guanacaste.
Over the recent years, biologists at the Leatherback Trust have encountered turtles with straws and plastic forks obstructing their airways.
How inhumane of us to leave garbage behind!
12 cleaning days were organized by this organization along with the Guanacaste National Marine Park Las Baulas in 2016. 225 kilos of waste were collected on those two beaches alone! They are spawning sites for the leatherback turtles.
Scientists characterized the waste and found small plastic pieces, clothes, shoes, plastic bottles, bottle caps, straws, syringes and even a mannequin foot.
A bottle with foreign markings was also found.
