Costa Rica News – Costa Rica hopes to be able to mitigate the negative impact on tourism following the terrible attacks on tourists recently.
The tourism sector, as of now, does not seem to have been affected. People tend to plan trips much in advance, however, so while cancellations aren’t being seen people planning vacations now for next year may choose other locations instead.
A report by Proimagen indicated that there were about 800 news reports worldwide about the tragic events. An analysis showed that about 600 of them mentioned that Costa Rica historically has been very safe.
The Minister of Tourism laments the incidents and recognizes how bad they were but also highlights the coordination between her office, the Ministry of Public Security and the Foreign Ministry to address the situations.
The ICT has donated about $1 million worth of equipment to the tourist police between 2006 and 2018. That amount will be donated annually for the next four years.
Additionally, 4,000 entrepreneurs will be trained in tourism security in the next 12 months and they will develop coordinated preventive actions in their communities.
