Although the Prosecutor’s Office appeals to request to suspend the sanitary vehicle restriction, for now, it continues. Drivers are urged to respect all traffic laws, including restrictions, in order to avoid sanctions.
The Minister of Communication refutes the affirmation of a judge of the Contentious Administrative Court, who had said that the sanitary vehicle restriction is not effective against the spread of covid-19.
The minister’s point of view is that “Scientific and epidemiological matters are better handled by epidemiologists than people from other professions who are not experts in health, or much less in epidemiology.”
He deeply disagrees with the judge and states that there are a series of international scientific studies demonstrating the importance of the sanitary vehicle restriction as a tool to reduce the levels of contagion.
The other side of the argument is that vehicle restriction actually creates more contact with infected people because it forces us to conglomerate on shared transport like public buses and taxis where appropriate social distancing is nearly impossible.
