Costa Rica News – A young tico, passionate about the environment, has traded in the car and bus for an electric scooter.
Fabián Alvarado is a 34-year-old systems engineer who believes in a better Costa Rica and that the change is in oneself. He already had an electric car, to benefit the environment, but traffic jams encouraged him to use the scooter.
The interesting means of transport was purchased online from China. It is charged just like a cell phone. It’s fully charged after being plugged in just five hours. To travel with it, Fabián uses a helmet, knee pads and a vest complete with directional signs to tell drivers when he will turn.
It can get to 30 kilometers per hour. It comes with a brake system and a bell to warn cars it is on the road. He got lucky on the price, bidding $300. The average cost of an electric scooter is about $1,000.
Fabián has a number of other interesting inventions in use. He created an automatic irrigation system to water his lawn and plants and an electronic food dispenser for his dog. He had solar panels installed on his house and put LED energy saving lights in cabinets and drawers to see better.
