Costa Rica News – An American tourist is missing, having been carried by a strong current. Joshua Byrnd was driving with his wife and daughter. He tried to cross a ravine but it had grown by heavy rains. A current impacted the side of the vehicle, dragged it and filled it with water.
He shouted to them to get out. His wife got out with the girl in one arm. He got out too and his wife had him by the arm but the strong current took him.
The incident occurred late in the afternoon in the Pozo Azul stream in Dominicalito, Bahía Ballena, Osa. They had arrived in the country for a second honeymoon and were on their way to the supermarket when this occurred.
Rescue work extended to the sea and will be ongoing today as well, as long as the weather conditions do not put the rescuers at risk. Involved are the Red Cross, mountain personnel and water rescue.
The flooding in Osa due to tropical wave #40 left 1,500 people without water and some without power. The National Emergency Commission has six shelters open with 174 people affected by the tropical waves.
