Costa Rica News – An American couple have died an accident at a waterfall known in Costa Rica.
They are identified as 48-year-old Darren Mizokami and his 41-year-old wife Kimberly Tean Mizokami, from Casper, Wyoming.
Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Organization said that Darren Mizokami was swimming at the Belen de Nosarita beauty spot when he began to have trouble staying afloat.
Kimberly apparently dove in to help him.
A third US tourist, a friend, went to get help but when she returned both were dead in the water.
Their bodies were later recovered.
One of the rescue party said the water was cloudy and gauged the depth of the water to be around seven meters.
The last post on a Facebook page under Darren Mizokami’s name said the couple had checked in to Samara, a town on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast near the falls.
Darren worked for the city of Casper in a number of different role for almost 25 years.
A colleague, Carter Napier, told K2 Radio he always had a “smile and a cheery greeting”.
“Darren was a bright spot in our lives. He will be sorely missed by me, the organisation and those who knew him”.
