Costa Rica News – The effects of the Costa Rica earthquake are being seen in the activities of the Costa Rica volcanoes. One of the effects is the same thing that happens to me after eating taco bell…..more gas is being emitted.
The Turrialba Volcano (in Cartago) has increased the emission of gas and widened the crack in the wall in it southern crater after the earthquake September 5th in Samara, Guanacaste.
This was stated by the “Report on physical changes of the active volcanoes of Costa Rica”, issued by the National Seismological Network (RSN) last Friday.
Volcanologists indicated the strong earthquake of 7.6 degrees caused fumarolic activity on the east wall of the active crater. The statement comes after noticing an increase in the release of gas.
“In general, we can say that there is an increase in exhaled activity.”
On the widening crack, volcanologists warned that the potential exists that a fraction of that side to slide into the active crater.
“Some fractures in the crater indicate that the rock mass stability remains precarious and small landslides may occur inside the active crater,” they explained.
The experts added that the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano increased its temperature and gas activity.
The Costa Rica Poas volcano has small phreatic eruptions (composed of gases, aerosols and ash) in the lake.
