Costa Rica News – A guide and four tourists were trapped in the Arenal Volcano for ten hours.
This led to the administrator of the park reiterating that access to the area near the crater is absolutely prohibited. Often tourists pay extra to guides to take them on illegal routes.
They got trapped by a landslide that happened near the cone of the volcano. The four Dutch tourists and their guide walked through one of the colossus’s canyons, where access is not allowed.
The Red Cross and Fire Department were alerted to the situation at 11:30 am but it took three hours to get there. It wasn’t until 7pm that they arrived at the exact point where they were stuck.
It took until 9 pm to get them all out. One had serious injuries and had to be removed from the fallen rocks and taken on a stretcher. The injuries are being treated at a private clinic.
