The strange occurrence happened on Saturday afternoon, at around 1:30pm, in the mouth of the Sierpe river, when the boat was hit by the tail of a whale, as confirmed by the Red Cross.
The group was calmly watching several whales when they suddenly capsized. The captain was able to radio for help and another boat that had left Sierpe with tourists was able to rescue them minutes later.
All 8 tourists and the captain are okay. The Red Cross evaluated the five who had minor injuries and they were transferred to the Thomas Casas Hospital.
This weekend starts the Tenth Festival of Whales and Dolphins in the Marino Ballena National Park.
