Costa Rica News – An iconic ship from the Colombian Navy is anchored in Limón.
The Arc Gloria is the flagship of the Colombian Navy. It has a history of half a century, having sailed 865,000 nautical miles, which is equivalent to 39 laps around the whole world.
It’s longest trip was 52 days, between South Africa and Australia.
This training ship boasts 23 years of continuous navigation. It has a unique style, 76.8 meters long with three 40-meter-high masts. It was made in Spain and then launched in December 1968. The ship is used as a naval school for cadet training. The students learn astronomical navigation, seamanship, coastal navigation and electronics.
It is currently open to the public.
Tours are free of charge and take about 15 minutes. One of the most impressive sights is that of the students training on the highest masts. On the tour you will also see some Colombian products, such as coffee.
