Police are trying to mitigate the illegal gold mining in Crucitas de Cutris. The extraction of gold has been constant.
From May of this year to date, 424 undocumented people have been arrested there. 172 of them were referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office because of crimes such as illegal possession of weapons and crimes related to psychotropic law and the law of mining.
Four people suspected of carrying out the operation were apprehended by authorities on December 25. The Public Force, Migration Police and representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Energy and Prosecutor’s Office were involved. Nine machetes, five macanas, nine craft boats and tools to work the land and separate the gold were confiscated.
Authorities will keep staff in the area throughout next year and will work on new strategies to monitor the zone in a joint effort. New guidelines will be put in place to sustain the invaded farms.
