The Pioneering Pursuit of Peace: Costa Rica Hosts the Groundbreaking 3rd World March for Peace and Nonviolence

In the lush landscapes of San José, Costa Rica, a movement is stirring. The city, renowned for its verdant beauty and tranquil vibes, recently played host to the first American meeting for the monumental 3rd World March for Peace and Nonviolence (3MM). This gathering, held at the Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED), marked a pivotal step in organizing a global crusade for peace that transcends borders and unites hearts.

A Meeting of Minds and Hearts

This two-day conclave, blending physical presence with digital participation, saw an eclectic mix of 54 delegates from diverse backgrounds – humanists, activists, educators, artists, and more – representing 14 nations across the Americas and Europe. The event spotlighted the noble goal of the 3MM, aiming to replicate the successes of past Marches while charting new territories of peace activism.

Formulating Strategies for a Peaceful Tomorrow

Diving into the depths of planning, the participants formed eight work groups, both virtual and in-person. These groups churned out innovative ideas like promoting nonviolence in schools, creating community peace mats, and launching itinerant notebooks for peace. The outcome was a rich tapestry of proposals destined to shape a more harmonious future.

A Continental Effort: The American Promotion Team

In a bid to synergize continental efforts, the assembly birthed the American Promotion Team. Tasked with coordinating and articulating initiatives across the continent, this team will be the backbone of various commissions, focusing on areas like dissemination, regional actions, translation, and documentation.

Expanding the Circle of Peace

There was a unanimous understanding among the participants about the need to widen the circle. The goal is to embrace more countries, cities, youth, women, indigenous groups, and other marginalized communities in the World March. This inclusivity is vital for a movement that seeks to echo the voices of peace and nonviolence across the globe.

The event saw participation from a plethora of organizations, including World without Wars and Violence from multiple countries, the Community for Human Development of Argentina, Silo’s Message, and many others. Each brought their unique perspective and commitment to the cause of peace.
