22% of car owners have not paid their “marchamo,” or right of circulation, on time. They are exposed to fines for late payment of this tax. They also can have their plates seized by traffic police for not having this year’s marchamo.
1,553,963 owners of motor vehicles have to pay this fee annually. This tax brings in about ¢253,000 million to INS. 337,000 owners have yet to cancel the payment for 2019. Owners of motorcycles have the highest percent of delinquencies, with one-third still owing the payment.
You can pay the marchamo at any of 2,314 points established throughout the country or through the INS website. This will entitle you to the sticker that must be displayed on the windshield of the car to avoid the seizure of plates. Those who pay late must cancel the fines at the same time of payment.
