The appeal of sport can spread across the world, whether it’s football, rugby or cricket. You will watch different teams from different continents take each other on, and it makes for fascinating viewing. Yet, when it comes to horse racing, you can also watch races from all over the world.
Fans of horse racing will know that you can watch racing from South America and Costa Rica, with major races going on all the time. Whether it is the La Plata track in Argentina, Hipodromo in Chile or the Maronas in Uruguay, you can find some of the biggest names in the continent at these courses.
As well as that, Costa Rica is emerging as another popular destination for runners and riders, with the San Jose track a notable course.
To demonstrate the respect and quality of these courses, in 2011 it was announced that bookmakers in England would show live races from various venues across South America.
Europe
As mentioned, horse racing is now a truly global affair, with many popular races across Europe. On October 2nd fans will be in for a treat in Chantilly as the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe takes place, with British runner Postponed leading the way with the bookies, priced at around 15/8, and we have reviewed some of the modern greats of the 1m 4f contest.
In the UK, fans are also treated to several major races across the year, we will have to wait until 2017 for the next Cheltenham Festival and Grand National, although Christmas time does bring punters the Welsh Grand National, where Mountainous won for a second time earlier this year.
USA
Not forgetting the US of course, where horse racing is really growing and one of the standout races of the year is quickly coming into focus.
The Breeders Cup, which attracts all of the big names, and all of you interested in horse racing betting. It will take place on November 4th and 5th and should be a cracking two days’ worth of racing and entertainment for the punters.
One of the main races, the Breeders’ Cup Mile, will take place on the 5th and 2015 winner Tepin is starting as an odds-on favourite to reclaim the crown. She impressed greatly last year and will be hoping for another victory to seal the $2m purse that is on the line, as well as continuing her great form.
So, there you have it, as you can see the popularity of racing is at an extremely high level with major races all across the world, and the big winner is the punter. You can now watch, read and absorb every last detail of any race as the sport develops its global appeal.
