The Situation At A Glance
The Banco de Costa Rica (BCR) announced on Saturday about a technical fault in their digital platform, causing disruptions in their transactional services. The bank’s Press Office, in response to La Nación’s query, confirmed that this isn’t the result of a cyberattack.
Updates on the Technical Issue
According to a brief press release, the bank identified the issue and as of 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, their technical team was still working on resolving it. The BCR’s Press Office reiterated that it wasn’t a cybersecurity breach but purely a technical glitch. The bank is diligently working on rectifying the problem to restore its services promptly.
Cybersecurity Insights and Apologies
Gezer Molina, the Cybersecurity Director of the Ministry of Science, Innovation, Technology, and Telecommunications (Miccit), verified that the BCR’s technical issues were purely technical and unrelated to platform security concerns.
BCR extended their apologies to their clients and users for the inconvenience caused. While La Nación inquired further about the specific services that were down, the bank referred back to their original statement.
User Experiences and Feedback
Users took to the bank’s social media channels to voice their difficulties. Many found it challenging to access BCR’s application, use ATMs, conduct transfers, and make card payments at various merchants. These issues were reported throughout the day.
Interestingly, during the morning, the Banco Nacional also had some technical hitches with their BN Móvil platform and Sinpe Móvil transfers. The bank addressed this on social media platform, Twitter, informing users about the glitch. However, by 9:40 a.m., they announced that access had been restored.
