Costa Rica Sports News – If you are looking for dynasties look no further than the Ameican Football League in Costa Rica. The top 2 teams in Costa Rica, the Santa Ana Bulldogs and Toros FC, will face off yet again in Costa Rica’s version of the Super Bowl…..Super Cazon.
The league’s semifinals were battled out last weekend at Luis ‘Pipilo’ Umana Stadium.
The Toros took the field first to go head to head with the up and coming Santa Domingo Saints. The Saints held the defending champs close into the 3rd quarter when they trailed 9 to 7.
Luck was not on the Saints side as a field goal that would have given them the league was called no good. The Saints players and coaches debated this call as they believed it went through.
After the missed field goal the Toros began to dominate and rolled to a 23 to 7 victory.
Iván Araya the Toros running back carried the team on his back and rolled to 126 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns. That was more that enough behind the stellar defense of the Toros which gave up over 7 points only 1 time this entire season.
Their opponent the Santa Ana Bulldogs had a little easier time in the semifinals.
The Bulldogs destroyed the Cartago Dragons with a score of 42 to 0. Although the Dragons had hope when they entered the game is was quickly crushed as the Buldogs rolled to victory.
The teams for the 2014 Costa Rica Super Bowl have been set and they are fired up to do battle Saturday April 26 will be played at 3:00 pm.
This game is predicted to be one full of animosity as the rivals have a bit of bad blood between them. Although the Toros have won both match-ups this year their 20 to 18 recent win shows how close the teams really are when it comes to talent.
The question remains, will the Toros finish the season undefeated or will the Bulldogs steal one and become champions on Super Bowl Saturday in Costa Rica.
