Global TESOL College Costa Rica among country’s most popular certification programs. Teaching English as second language continues to rank among the leading motives for moving abroad. Costa Rica, due to a continued high volume of foreign investment by fortune 500 companies, is a market where interest in teaching equals demand for the practice. Given the increased demand for professional English classes, travelers, recent college graduates, and retirees continue to view Costa Rica as an ideal teaching destination.
Global TESOL College Costa Rica, located in Jacó beach on the central Pacific, has seen its teacher certification program blossom in 2013. The center offers Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, or TESOL, certification, and is internationally recognized and accredited while also guaranteeing employment for all of its students. The Global TESOL College has certified more than 40,000 graduates globally and continues to be a popular vocational choice that provides teachers the opportunity to explore the world.
The Global TESOL College Costa Rica is the only accredited college on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. As the first training center in Jacó beach, it offers 5 different certificate and diploma certifications that range from 120 to 700 hours, depending on the program chosen. The center’s location has proven a big attraction as Jacó beach is only an hour and a half from the Costa Rican capital of San José and the quaint town offers all needed amenities, such as health clinics, shopping centers, and affordable living arrangements.
The Canadian based franchise originally arrived to Costa Rica in 2009. After conducting the program in the San José suburb of Coronado for three years, the decision was made to relocate to more student friendly Jacó beach in 2013. With that decision franchise owner Andre Sigourney hired two new instructors, Corey Coates and Andrew Woodbury, who combined have more than ten years of ESL experience in Latin America. Both have served as academic directors of prominent private language institutes in the Central Valley of Costa Rica and use their experience and contacts in the country to ensure the best outcomes for the center’s graduates.
Courses at the institute are available every month and the college gives students the flexibility to choose when they want to begin the course. The most popular program, the Advanced TESOL Program is a four week program. In-class sessions are conducted in the mornings, Monday through Friday, with practice teaching and observation sessions for students done at a local language institute in the evenings. Weekends are free to explore the country as students see fit. At the end of the program, the college books job interviews for all students.
“Taking the course here in Costa Rica was the best decision I made,” said Roxanne Cartwright, a former student and program graduate. “Not only do you get to teach real English classes for practice and experience, but you get to be a part of an amazing Costa Rican community and experience the country as a local.”
