While the only legal taxis are the red ones throughout the country and the orange ones near the airport, we all know about Uber and it’s much better prices in comparison. New players are also being added to the mix, such as InDriver and YBeeGo+.
Users prefer these new ways of transport because they are faster, cheaper and easier to solicit by cell phone apps. Additionally, they allow one to know the price before agreeing to the trip. InDriver even allows negotiation of the price.
The bill related to legalizing and regulating these forms of transport, presented in January, is more or less stalled. It could reach the Plenary of the Assembly in October or November.
On the other hand, a group of civilians of Consumers of Costa Rica presented another bill claiming that the Government’s bill does not benefit users of transport services. Deputies will decide when and how to handle this. In the meantime, we can expect more strikes by drivers of official taxis.
