The World Health Organization has updated recommendations for those travelling on commercial flights, including those to Costa Rica. Namely, the WHO reminds us that restricting the movement of people and property during health emergencies is not necessary nor effective in most cases.
Those who are sick with any type of respiratory symptoms should delay or avoid traveling, especially to areas with active transmission of the new coronavirus. Those who are seniors or have chronic health conditions are more susceptible and may want to avoid travel.
While traveling, everyone should wash hands frequently and immediately after sneezing or coughing. The WHO recommends soap and water or alcohol based disinfectant. While someone with respiratory symptoms might use a mask to avoid spreading the disease, the general public does not need to wear a mask.
Travelers from affected areas must be monitored for 14 days and follow certain protocols. Some countries may require a quarantine for travelers from certain areas.
