Costa Rica News – Pavones is a famous surf break of Costa Rica which offers one of the longest lefts in the world! On a good day during the high season of May through November it can connect for 2-3 minutes! The wave’s many sections allow for showing off your various skills.
The location is on the interior of Golfo Dulce and is sometimes blocked for weeks at a time with many swells. It’s recommended to research ahead of time to make sure there is surf. You can get there by a paved road or by flying into Golfito (if your board is 7 feet or less) and then taking a cab down to Pavones.
When the legendary Pavones is good it’s reeeaaally good! It rides almost .75 miles! This is among the longest in the world. Other great breaks are close by. Punta Banco is a reef break just to the south of Pavones which offers both lefts and rights. Go here if Pavones is too crowded. If you get to Punta Burica (boat access only) you will feel you have reached the end of the world. The beauty of this remote reef is astounding. It’s on the tip of the Costa Rica/Panama border.
The area is mainly for surfing, reading, meditating, and the like. There are limited other options. Pavones has a few restaurants and a surf shop with internet. Most power in the area is made by solar energy!
Respect the locals, the way of life, and the natural beauty.
