Sulàyöm, a term that translates to the “Center of Earth and Sky” in Bribri – one of Costa Rica’s indigenous languages, now also symbolizes a state-of-the-art innovation campus. This new hub for manufacturing and medical research is an initiative of Establishment Labs, which has invested an impressive $45 million into the facility.
Expanding Manufacturing Capabilities at the Sulàyöm Campus
Positioned strategically in Zona Franca Coyol, Alajuela, the Sulàyöm campus was launched on July 19. Its mission is clear: to significantly boost manufacturing capacity and meet more than 50% of the existing worldwide demand for breast implants.
Inside the Sulàyöm Campus: Space for Learning, Research, and Manufacturing
Spread over a sprawling 9,300 square meters, the campus houses not just manufacturing space but also offices, a Global Learning Center, and dedicated areas for medical research. Adding to its unique features, the facility also boasts an operating room and procedure rooms, designed to provide hands-on education and training both in-person and through virtual platforms.
Sulàyöm Campus Boosts Job Opportunities
Along with the expansion of the facility, Establishment Labs plans to create 1,000 new job opportunities, a significant addition to its current workforce of 700. The company’s robust growth is reflected in its Nasdaq share value, which currently stands at $70, a significant leap from its initial value of $18.
Penetrating New Markets: China and USA
As part of its growth strategy, Establishment Labs is actively seeking permissions to introduce its products into the Chinese and American markets. Once successful, this will further solidify its position as a leading player in the global medical manufacturing industry.
