Costa Rica News – The sun will likely be a great ally for the generation of electricity in the future.
A new study has qualified a combination of solar and hydro energy as “optimal,” although ICE prefers hydroelectric plants.
The use of solar power would allow a more flexible and rapid way to meet the energy needs of the country rather than through the construction of additional hydroelectric plants.
The stability of the country’s distribution network has been seen as an electrical system well equipped to absorb large electricity generation quotas with solar and wind energy without compromising operational safety.
These conclusions come from a study by the Inter-American Development Bank that analyzed the conditions of the electric system via simulation of possible scenarios.
It is, however, important to add more capacity only as demand grows, as it is very expensive to have capacity that is not being used.
