Costa Rica News – Deputies have approved a law to exempt electric cars from taxes.
This happened with 37 votes in favor and only one against.
This new law makes the purchase of these vehicles much more accessible.
While the law promotes this type of transportation, the cost is still high due to the rechargeable battery system on which they operate.
This was the second debate on the issue. The initiative passed the first debate, as well. It will now move onto the signature by President Luis Guillermo Solís and the official publication of the law.
We can expect the legislation to take effect within the first three months of next year.
These cars are great for the environment and Costa Rica’s related goals. A massive sale of these zero-emission vehicles would go a long way to contribute to the idea of Costa Rica becoming carbon neutral by 2022.
