Costa Rica News – 383 Costa Rican buildings have been declared to have historical and architectural heritage.
Many of these need to be restored.
Save our historical and architectural heritage 2016 calls upon experts in fields of Architecture and Engineering to create and submit proposals to conserve or rehabilitate buildings.
The contest has been going on since 1997.
Winning designs are now seen in San Jose, Guanacaste, Puntarenas and Limon.
Previous winners restored the Steinvorth building, Juan Ramírez School, Casa Fait, Casa Zúñiga-Clachar and the Capitanía de Puerto.
This year’s winner will get ¢120 million to carry out his or her plan plus a ¢12 million prize.
Rules of the competition can be found at www.patrimonio.go.cr.
The jury will consider the symbolic value of the building chosen to restore as well as whether it warrants such an intervention.
The winner will be announced on August 4.
