Costa Rica News – Some places in Costa Rica are truly trying to instate the “Green” image that ICT boasts about the country. But doing things on a local level is a beginning and we can only hope that the success of these projects encourages the Costa Rican government to do things on a large scale.
The City of San Ramon will become the first city that is delving into generating renewable energy generation through solar panels on a community wide scale.
The Alajuela canton awarded the ¢ 2.5 million (Approx $4,600) contract to Energy Solutions SA for the installation of 12 solar panels on the municipal library.
This solar technology will supply 90% of required electricity (400 kWh) needed to run that building.
Oscar Alvarado, the engineer in charge of this project stated that “This municipality (San Ramon) has consistently put in place policies of that encourage sustainability and carbon neutrality. Now we are going to develop our own energy from the power of the sun.”
This isn’t the only place that these solar panels are being installed. It the next few weeks they will also be placed at the cemetery where the energy usage is about 1,400 kWh per month.
This shows that the local communities of Costa Rica are trying to think globally by acting locally.
