You will through be able to take a tour of the central valley on a journey by train from San Jose to Alajuela. Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory would love this trip.
The Instituto Costarricense de Ferrocarriles (Incofer) will offers tours by train from San Jose to San Rafael de Alajuela on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of January.
The travel times will be at 10 am, 12 noon and 2 pm and will depart from the train station Pacífico, in San Jose, confirmed Miguel Carabaguíaz, chief executive of the entity.
The train will make return trips (from San Rafael de Alajuela), at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm, said Carabaguíaz. The tours are round trip and the ticket price is ¢ 1,000 or about $2.
For those making the trip from San Jose, the tickets will be sold at the station, while those who want the round trip from Alajuela, may purchase the ticket on the train.
“We wanted to take advantage of the holiday time, so that parents can take the trip with their children. The trip lasts little less than an hour, “said Carabaguíaz.
Incofer is expected to have trains with seven cars, allowing it to take 350 passengers per trip.

If the demand is great, it is possible that more trains will make the trip.
This is not the first time the Incofer announces train rides for the season end and beginning of the year. Last year they offered the service to San Rafael de Alajuela in the two years ago the city of Heredia.
Carabaguíaz also confirmed that in January they will continue the construction of the railway to Cartago.
If estimates are correct, in late January the Incofer will provide train service to Cartago.
