Costa Rica News – Samara is adamant about combating the Zika virus.
In an effort to eradicate the virus from the vicinity, the Municipality of Nicoya teamed up with the Ministry of Health on a campaign.
The campaign was an activity that started at 6:30 am on Saturday and was meant to clean up the zone from Punta Indio to Torito, Santo Domingo and Matapalo. This effort should make a big difference in the region, which already has 8 confirmed cases.
Eliminating breeding sites and killing the adult mosquito population is the most effective way to lower the chances of this and other mosquito born diseases and bring back a sense of calm to the community.
200 volunteers collected 15 tons of waste from the communities. Many private and federal companies contributed to the effort.
There will be another cleanup on the 12th and community members are asked to join in.
