Many Costa Ricans and expats living in Costa Rica want to venture into athletics by way of running short marathons. There are various 5 and 10 kilometer runs coming up in the first few months of 2019. These would be a great starting point for new Costa Rican athletes.
Chepe Corre, on March 3, will celebrate its fifth edition. It’s not a very demanding race as it’s mostly a flat terrain.
Candelaria, in Cartago, on February 17th, is also mostly flat and it has just two laps.
A new event, Luv Run, will be on February 10th in La Sabana.
Grupo Publicitario is hosting a series of three 5 km races in Escalante, Cartago and Lindora in February, March and April, respectively. If an athlete does all three he will get a commemorative medal. These are inexpensive races, at around ¢9,000 or ¢20,000 for all three.
Claro’s 10 mile run will be on February 24th.
The Marathon of San Jose will be held on May 19th with a 5 km and 10 km option.
