The Fiscal Control Police found many types of liquors without sanitary registration or with expired sanitary records in Coronado. The Ministry of Health is investigating the factory.
Samples were sent to the Costa Rican Institute for Research and Teaching in Nutrition and Health to be analyzed to see if they contain methanol, an alcohol meant for refrigeration systems.
Alcohol with methanol has killed at least 20 people and hospitalized at least 45, including one foreigner and two seniors over age 70.
The public is warned not to drink Guaro Gran Apache, Aguardiente Estrella Roja, Guaro Montano, Aguardiente Barón Rojo, Aguardiente Timbuka, Aguardiente Molotov, or Aguardiente Sachetto until the health alert is lifted as well as to reported altered alcohol to 9-1-1.
