Costa Rica Travel – You know the feeling of an adrenaline rush, right? If that sensation was present in some of your greatest memories then you should try the sport of white water rafting! Costa Rica has the best rafting spots in the whole world! Class 2-5 rapids are available to suit the needs of families, beginners, and experienced thrill seekers.
Costa Rica’s mountainous topography and copious rainfall are together responsible for one of the best white water river selections in the world. About half a dozen rambunctious rivers are regularly run by experienced rafting outfitters, and those river trips not only provide plenty of excitement, they also pass some gorgeous scenery.
Each river in Costa Rica offers a different type of view to enjoy while rafting through the white water. Some of the most sought after rivers to ride are the Pacuare, Sarapiqui, and Corobici.
The river routes available to rafters range from the turbulent waters of the lower Reventazon, where you hardly have enough time to catch your breath between rapids, to the meandering curves of the Corobici, where you spend more time watching wildlife than paddling.
Look for a guide who is bilingual because instructions need to be understood the first time in this somewhat dangerous sport. Also check that they have current insurance and proper equipment.
You don’t need to have experience with rafting specifically, but swimming ability is a must! June through October are the wildest months. Day trips and overnight ones are available from San Jose.
