Costa Rica News – Eduardo Li is one of the 14 top officials charged by the US Department of Justice with participation in a 24 year long scheme to enrich themselves through corruption of international soccer.
Li is the president of the Costa Rican Soccer Federation. He was arrested Tuesday Night from the Baur Au Lac Hotel in Zurich, Switzerland.
The vice president and president of the CONCACAF were also arrested.
A total of 47 charges were revealed, charging the 14 defendants with racketeering, money laundering, electronic fraud, organized crime, and conspiracy, among other crimes.
The indictment attests to a systematic, rampant corruption that spanned at least two generations of soccer officials abusing their positions to acquire millions in bribes and kickbacks.
