Costa Rica News – This is an interesting idea but do not think it is going to help ICE start actually running a business correctly. This can only be accomplished by revamping how the company does business.
The Costa Rican Electricity Institute will soon offer prepaid electricity. This new idea is one of many future services meant to face the falling energy sales due to the boom in distributed generation and changes in the way consumers use energy.
Prepaid service would greatly serve those with an occasional property. They wouldn’t have to pay a minimum of energy for time not there. They could turn it on and off for days, weeks or months depending on when the house is in use.
The new portfolio of services will include the possibility to install smart electric meters. These allow reading remotely and provide information about how the energy is being used.
The company will alert customers when there is an unusual increase in consumption because there may be a leak or theft. Another service it will offer is commercial lighting shutdown and lighting options to meet users’ needs.
So basically they are in hope that people will pay a good amount to have the initial meter installed…..sorry ICE not a good idea.
- The cost of these meters is going to out weight the benefits of just having the regular meters
- You are going to have to train Ticos on how to install and use these meters – ughhhh enough said
- Implementing something new in Costa Rica is normally not worth the cost and effort it takes to implement it
