Costa Rica News – Research experts from France and Germany are working on a study that will decipher pre-Columbian engravings on 500 stones from Guanacaste.
They are looking at the archaeological site in Pedregal.
The iconographic study will determine the influence of Mesoamerican culture in the Central American region. The links they hope to find will help understand the migratory and cultural processes in the region.
The stones show a great variety of petroglyphs, with geometric, zoomorphic and anthropomorphic components. The study will take four years and build on the work of other scientists with new technologies and an analytical approach.
A drone is taking photographs to map the area. The images will generate a virtual scenario that allows people to virtually travel to the site. Additionally, a 3D model will be created that allows us to see the details even better than the naked eye is able to.
