The Portland Timbers are changing things up for preseason this year.
Along with spending time in Portland and traveling to Tucson, Arizona for preseason training camp, the Timbers will train and play preseason games in San José, Costa Rica.
Portland is set to begin preseason training on Tuesday, Jan. 22 in Portland. The club will remain in Portland for a week before departing for Costa Rica on Jan. 30. The Timbers will spend 11 days in Costa Rica training at Complejo Deportivo Fedefutbol Plycem, the home of the Costa Rica Football Federation.
While in Costa Rica, the Timbers will face Deportivo Saprissa on Monday, Feb. 4 and C.S. Herediano on Thursday, Feb. 7.
The Timbers will then travel to Tucson for the Mobile Mini Sun Cup. They will train in Tucson from Feb. 11-23. The club will play four games in Tucson, taking on Cascadia rival Seattle Sounders on Wednesday, Feb. 13, the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, Feb. 16, USL side Phoenix Rising FC on Wednesday, Feb. 20 and Real Salt Lake on Saturday, Feb. 23.
The Timbers will return to Portland on Sunday, Feb. 24 ahead of their regular season opener against the Colorado Rapids on the road on March 2.
