Costa Rica News – The police have been following a trail of webpages offering abortion clinics and medications to terminate pregnancy.
Both of these are illegal in Costa Rica and those who engage in these illegal activities put themselves at risk.
There were at least four websites offering such services found. One was not hidden at all, www.abortocr.com. The site states that its goal is to inform women with unexpected pregnancies about abortion methods. It mentions the pill Cytotec.
Pro Mujer maintains its location private until an appointment is made by phone.
The photos displayed look more like a home than a clinic.
Those who provide abortions can be jailed for six months-ten years.
Clandestine clinics and in home abortions are often risky. They often use instruments that are not properly sterilized. There have been various cases where women go to the emergency room after such a procedure bleeding uncontrollably or with an infection that can lead to death.
