Costa Rica News – The traffic police have been busy giving tickets and confiscating plates of all cars and motorcycles circulating without having paid the annual “marchamo.” 17% of vehicles have not yet cancelled their fee.
133 pairs of plates have been seized for not carrying the right of circulation for 2017, as confirmed by the director of the traffic police.
Drivers who haven’t paid are fined ¢51,300.
To get the plates back the ticket must be paid and the right of circulation be brought up to date.
Additionally, there is interest to pay on the compulsory insurance if paid laid. Traffic violations are also subject to interest over time.
1,184,539 vehicles are paid up to date but the other 17% of drivers are running the risk until they pay the marchamo at INS, a bank, Servimas or the post office.
INS estimates a raise of ¢216 billion for this year.
