From Timid Birthday Girl to Confident Beauty
Natalia González, a 24-year-old Miss Costa Rica candidate, opens up about her childhood shyness so extreme that she would hide in the bathroom during her own birthday parties. Overwhelmed by the spotlight, the fear of being the center of attention during the traditional piñata hitting had her fleeing from her guests.
Battling Misconceptions
Often mistaken for arrogance, her introversion made her a target for misconceptions. However, beauty pageants proved to be the turning point for her. It was a space where she faced and overcame her fears, transforming them into strengths.
Beauty Pageants: More than Just Glitz
For many, beauty pageants might appear superficial, but for Natalia, they were an empowering tool. By participating, she found herself stepping out of her comfort zone, embracing challenges that she had previously avoided.
Growth and Achievements
Although not the most extroverted person now, she acknowledges her immense progress. “I couldn’t even wear a swimsuit in public,” she recalls. Before competing for the title of Miss Costa Rica, Natalia showcased her talents in three other pageants, including Top Model of The World, Miss Supranational, and Miss América Latina.
Roots and Values
Born in Sabanilla de Montes de Oca and raised amidst nature in San Carlos, Natalia’s values stem from her upbringing. Growing up with an economist and stockbroker mother and a business administrator father, she was instilled with a strong work ethic and a deep understanding of her self-worth.
The Essence of a True Miss Costa Rica
To Natalia, winning Miss Costa Rica is more than a crown. She wishes to represent the multifaceted Costa Rican women – those who embody beauty, intelligence, perseverance, and resilience. “Physical beauty isn’t everything. I want to show the world the true essence of Costa Rican women,” she states.
A Mission Beyond Beauty
Natalia’s commitment to social issues shines through her advocacy for the deaf community in Costa Rica. She has learned the Costa Rican Sign Language (LESCO) and is determined to raise awareness and promote inclusivity. With close family members who are hearing impaired, she’s personally witnessed their daily challenges, spurring her drive for change.
The Road Ahead
With her sights set on the Miss Costa Rica title, Natalia is geared up for the finals on August 16. Winning the crown would mean an opportunity to represent her nation in the prestigious Miss Universe pageant scheduled for November 18 in El Salvador.
