Costa Rica News – Assault at gunpoint is not something we usually hear about happening in Costa Rica, the safest country in Central America. Unfortunately, it did occur yesterday, in the Limon province.
A group of about 30 or 40 tourists were making their way to a hotel in Tortuguero, in the morning.
Edwin Miranda, from the group of police known as Fuerza Publica, said that the group was on a boat in the river when they were intercepted by a speedboat.
Four armed men came onto their boat and took all of their belongings, cash, and passports.
All of the people who were robbed were foreigners, including Americans and Europeans, many from Spain.
According to the authorities, a search was being conducted by land and air, with help from the Coast Guard. So far, they have been unable to apprehend any possible suspects.
Tourists will have to go to their respective embassies for help getting replacement passports.
