Costa Rica News – Let’s give some happy news when it comes to Costa Rica and animal protection.
A small ocelot just 22 days old was rescued in San Carlos yesterday. Around 10 am someone made an anonymous call reporting the mewing of a cat in Esteritos, San Carlos.
Police arrived on the scene and found the animal in a room in a house on a sugarcane farm. Workers found the ocelot and took him home for safekeeping, as ants were biting him.
Authorities are investigating that, however, because the animal didn’t appear to have any bites.
Ocelots are endangered. Lack of food often makes them switch habitats and leave their babies abandoned. Hunting for their skin is another threat.
There are concerns because in the past four months three other ocelot cubs were rescued from private hands.
This one was transferred to the Las Pumas Rescue Center in Cañas.
