Costa Rica News – An Upstate New York business executive died Saturday at a zip-line restaurant in the treetops of a Costa Rican rainforest.
Spectrum News reported that John Anderson was celebrating his 65th birthday at a rainforest restaurant accessible via zip-line.
The restaurant, Pacuare Lodge, is located on a platform that sits in a ceiba tree, according to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle.
After dinner, customers rappel to ground level, but Costa Rican authorities tell WXXI AM that something went wrong as Anderson was descending. He fell 100 feet to his death.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
Anderson had spent more than 30 years in the banking and real estate industries in the Rochester area. He was a partner at the property management company Ryco Management, in Pittsford, and formerly CEO of the mall company Wilmorite.
He was also the father of four.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
This story has been updated to clarify that Anderson was rappelling down from the restaurant, not zip-lining, when he fell.
