Costa Rica News – If you are planning on heading to Jaco for a beach vacation, you might want to pack some extra mosquito repellent.
Jaco has 19 Zika patients now, eight more than were reported by Tuesday.
The increase was expected due to conditions in the area, according to the Health Minister, Fernando Llorca.
The Zika emergency decree has gone out to 31 cantons. Weather conditions and people traveling for tourism or business are helping the virus spread to other areas beyond those with favorable conditions for mosquito hatching.
Until last week, the cases were all concentrated in Guanacaste, especially in Nicoya and Carillo. Then it spread to San Jose.
There are 5 people infected in Alajuelita, San Jose and a total of 32 cases countrywide.
There are also six reports of people who contracted the virus in other countries and then entered Costa Rica.
The latest of these was from the Dominican Republic, according to an epidemiological bulletin.
