Costa Rica News – In the tropical rainforests of Costa Rica, a new species of glass frog was just discovered.
It’s called Hyalinobatrachium dianae. It’s peculiar skin and whistle attracted investigators.
No other species makes the type of song that comes from this small frog, of just 2.5 inches. It has long thin legs and a white iris. It is the 14th known glass frog species in the country.
Six specimens were found in total, in Limon and Heredia between 400 and 800 meters above sea level.
They are believed to also inhabit the inaccessible forests in the Central Volcanic and Talamanca Mountains.
The species was named in honor of Janet Diana Kubicki, who supported the primary investigator(her son)’s interest in nature. Another reason for choosing the name was in honor of the Roman goddess of hunting, Diana.
