Costa Rica News – The hospital in San Carlos, Alajuela, is starting a new method intended to prevent placing patients in inpatient beds when not absolutely necessary.
Those who can go home after treatment will have the option of transportation at certain times.
The service operates from 7 am to 4 pm. Those who need a treatment in the day can come with those accompanying them, receive the treatment, and go home until the next day when they return for the following treatment.
It is generally more comfortable for a patient to recover at home plus this system opens more beds and the hospital can help more people. 6 out of 10 beds currently in use are being used by those who could potentially use this service.
It applies mostly to those in prolonged treatment plans who are only actively receiving care at the hospital for an hour or two per day.
It doesn’t make sense for them to lay in a hospital bed for 22 hours until their next treatment.
